Director of Emergency Management
Pursuant to Chapter 4 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Attleboro, Attleboro Fire Chief Scott LaChance has been appointed to serve a three-year term as Director of Emergency Management.
As Director of Emergency Management, Chief LaChance has all the powers and duties provided in the Civil Defense Act, Ch. 639 of the Acts of 1950. Under the general supervision and control of the Mayor, Chief LaChance administers the local organization for Emergency Management, plans for emergencies and performs and coordinates Emergency Management functions in time of emergency. Chief Lachance is prepared to activate an Emergency Operations Center during any major disaster to allow coordination of all support agencies to provide continuity of services to the public. He is also responsible for the advertisement, notification, and assembly of services that are in the best interest of the citizens of the City of Attleboro and to prepare and distribute information and procedures governing the same.
In preparing for and responding to emergency situations, Chief LaChance works collaboratively with the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), the Attleboro Police Department, the Attleboro Department of Public Works, the Bristol County Technical Rescue Team, and the Attleboro Emergency Management Advisory Council.
If emergency shelter is required, as determined by Chief LaChance, the Attleboro High School will be the designated shelter for the City of Attleboro. (1 Blue Pride Way, Attleboro MA 02703)
