The Municipal Building Commission (MBC) is composed of 8 volunteer members who are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Municipal Council. Each member shall serve for a term of three years with the term of three members to expire each year. The Mayor shall appoint the Chairman annually.

The Municipal Building Commission, under the direction and control of the Mayor, shall be responsible for the construction of new school buildings. The Commission shall be responsible for the preparation of building and site specifications consistent with the educational specifications provided to the Commission by the School Committee. In addition, the Mayor shall authorize the Municipal Building Commission to assume responsibility for the construction of other municipal buildings or additions to already established municipal buildings
